    November 5, 2024
    Greetings Bonny Eagle Community,
Today, just after 10:00 AM, we called for a “Hold In Place” at BEHS and “Alert” status at BEMS in response to a report of a threat outside of Bonny Eagle High School.
Local law enforcement confirmed that similar calls have been coming in across the state, all with the same threatening message. In fact, to their credit, I was warned by the Buxton Police Department a call might come in as it was happening. We received the exact message as was reported in other parts of the state and country.
Our law enforcement partners quickly confirmed that this was a hoax or “swatting” incident. Additionally, out of an abundance of caution, our administrative teams checked parking lots and entrances for any sign of a real threat and found nothing to substantiate the details of the hoax call. By 11:00, the “Hold in Place” was lifted at BEHS and both BEHS and BEMS continued on with their day remaining in “Alert” status out of an abundance of caution.
To help you better understand what all of this means here are some definitions from our Emergency Plan:
An Alert announcement is made when law enforcement or some other agency recommends more vigilance due to a (potential) threat nearby or in a surrounding community. The staff will be asked to be vigilant and report anything suspicious or concerning to the administration.
Hold In Place is called when there is a threat or hazard outside or inside of the school building that is not life threatening. Hold In Place uses the security of the physical facility to act as protection. Hold In Places are used when an emergency occurs outside or inside of the school and an evacuation would be dangerous or when there is an emergency inside and movement within the school will put students in jeopardy.
We appreciate the angst these situations can cause but I want you to be assured there was no real danger to staff or students. I appreciate the prompt proactive approach by our school administrators and law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of our schools.
As always, contact me directly with any questions or concerns.
    Regards,
Clay Gleason, MSAD 6 Superintendent of Schools

Maine is the homeland of the Wabanaki, the People of the Dawn. For over 12,000 years Native Americans have made their lives here. They are the ancestors of present-day Indigenous peoples, including the Abenaki, Maliseet, Micmac, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot Nations—known collectively as the Wabanaki. These communities have survived despite years of violent colonization and continual violations of water, territorial rights, and sacred sites.
